How to Build an Attention Sanctuary: A Six-Week Journey for Parents and Guardians PART 1 (Sep 19 - Oct 10)

from $200.00

An attention sanctuary is a space—physical, mental, or temporal—where meaningful connection flourishes, free from the tug of digital distractions. In our hyper-connected world, attention sanctuaries offer a refuge where families can cultivate presence, rediscover the joy of undivided attention, and shape children's attentional abilities without the warping effects of commercial interests. No attention sanctuary is more critical than the family home.

Building on the insights from "The Great Rewiring of Parenthood" seminar (see participant feedback HERE), this six-week workshop series invites concerned parents from the greater NY area to join a supportive "parents working group" dedicated to creating attentional sanctuaries for their families.

What to Expect

  • Enacted Approach: Engage in weekly attentional exercises designed to help you and your children navigate the challenges of the attention economy.

  • Structured Curriculum: Follow a carefully crafted progression of topics and practices, building your skills and understanding week by week.

  • Supportive Community: Connect with like-minded parents facing similar challenges, sharing experiences and insights in a collaborative environment.

Weekly Format

Each week will include:

  1. Group discussion and reflection on the previous week's at-home exercise

  2. Introduction to new concepts and their relevance to attention and parenting

  3. In-class attentional exercises and explorations

  4. Assignment of a new at-home exercise to practice during the week

Topics

  1. Understanding the Attention Crisis: Personal and familial impacts

  2. Mapping Your Family's Attentional Landscape

  3. Designing Attentional Sanctuaries: Practical strategies for the home

  4. Mindful Tech Use: Balancing necessity and intentionality

  5. Fostering Deep Attention: Exercises for parents and children

  6. Building a Sustainable Attentional Ecology: Long-term strategies and community support

Throughout the program, we'll also touch on broader themes that influence our relationship with attention and technology, providing context for our practical exercises and discussions.
