Sidewalk Study: ACTION & ABSTRACTION in Greenpoint

  • Greenpoint Brooklyn, New York (map)

From our JULY SIDEWALK STUDIES series: WHY “STUDY” (IN THIS HEAT)?!

ACTION & ABSTRACTION in Greenpoint

Borges' famously short story, On Exactitude in Science, imagines a map so detailed that it replaces the world it seeks to represent. Sontag's Against Interpretation sees art as an experience to embody, rather than a message to decipher. Both works question what, exactly, is lost when we try to represent reality.

We'll join Borges and Sontag in this inquiry, with attention to representation's limits — and whatever lies beyond them.

Tuesday, July 3Oth: 7:00pm in GREENPOINT

Jorge Luis Borges' On Exactitude in Science and Susan Sontag's Against Interpretation with Czarina & Nathan. For more information, click HERE.

Anyone who has participated in an Attention Lab or completed a SoRA seminar course is welcome to participate. Email “strotherschool (at) sustainedattention (dot) net” to join the invite list.
