SIDEWALK STUDY is a form of group inquiry combining theory, practice, and public space. Students meet at a predetermined location, where they read through a selected text individually, as a group, and in pairs.
Students are then given the address of a second location, as well as a Practice of Attention to be performed in pairs, en route. This Practice of Attention is meant to activate theoretical questions surfaced by the text, and to do so in relation to public space (the streets and sidewalk).
Upon arriving at the destination, students synthesize their experience of the previous two phases (theory, practice) in an open-ended discussion.
