From our AUGUST SIDEWALK STUDIES series: TACTICS of CARE
COMMUNITY & COMMODITY in Ridgewood
Marx argued in his early writings that the transcendence of private property would liberate our senses to the full splendor of the world — that, in effect, property was inimical to beauty. Gilman-Opalsky conjures a mirror image of this notion when he asserts that what we call love is, itself, the "heart of communism." In this Study, we'll move through Ridgewood thinking about love’s (in)compatibility with capitalist exchange relations. We’ll attend to the possibilities of communalism and explore what happens when we broaden our spheres of affection.
Monday, August 12th: 7pm in Ridgewood
