Sidewalk Study: KINSHIP TIME in Fort Greene

  • Fort Greene Brooklyn, NY United States (map)

From our SEPTEMBER SIDEWALK STUDIES series: TIME

TIME as KINSHIP

Mainstream narratives about climate change are built upon a linear conception of time. But indigenous philosopher and environmental justice scholar Kyle Powys Whyte proposes an alternative way of thinking: TIME as KINSHIP. This model narrates time as a series of shifting relationships. We'll consider how kinship-centered time can reconfigure responsibilities in a time of climate crisis.

Text: Time as Kinship by Kyle Powys Whyte (2021)
