From our JULY SIDEWALK STUDIES series: WHY “STUDY” (IN THIS HEAT)?!
LONG, HOT SUMMER in Lower Manhattan
Heat can kill, but it can also catalyze. Capote's Summer Crossing charts a newlywed couple's arc toward destruction in a sweltering city. Osterweil's In Defense of Looting considers broken shop windows (the symbol par excellence of urban eruption) as a tool of legitimate political change. Things move fast when the mercury's rising.
In this Sidewalk Study, we'll feel the heat firsthand, and think about the passions and possibilities it produces. This long, hot summer can be a drag — but can it be a crucible?
Tuesday, July 23rd: 7pm in LOWER MANHATTAN
Truman Capote's Summer Crossing and Vicky Osterweil's In Defense of Looting with Genevieve & Ariel.
