Sidewalk Study: MORE-THAN-HUMAN-CARE in Gowanus

  • Gowanus Brooklyn New York, New York (map)

From our AUGUST SIDEWALK STUDIES series: TACTICS of CARE

MORE-THAN-HUMAN CARE in Gowanus

Caring for humans is tricky enough. Maria Puig de la Bellacasa ups the ante by asking how we can care for the more-than-human world. This raises difficult questions, not least of which is: How can we give care for the more-than-human when our very conception of care is bounded by human experience?

We'll read from de la Bellacasa's Matters of Care and give our attention to Gowanus, the site of one of New Yorks' greatest environmental (read: more-than-human) tragedies. What possibilities for care remain?

Wednesday, August 28th: 7pm in Gowanus

Maria Puig de la Bellacasa's "Matters of Care" with Kyle and Ben.
